The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is the world’s most widely-used PERSONALTY assessment tool, with over two million assessments conducted each year. Designed to measure psychological preferences in how people see the world and make decisions, the MBTI closely corresponds with Carl Jung’s work on “psychological type”. The mother and daughter team of Briggs and Myers were not psychologists but developed their instrument on the basis of their own observations.
Mechanics The MBTI assessment can be conducted with the completer of the questionnaire then receiving a written report. The MBTI is an invaluable tool for developing teams since its analysis of the 16 personality types helps people understand what makes them similar to - and also different from - their team members. As with other such assessment tools, the aim is to encourage people to identify and appreciate differences within their teams, in order to enhance awareness of self and others and thereby team effectiveness. |
