A market leader in manufacturing, distribution and sales management in Greater China identified Talent Management as a major component of its growth strategy. They believed that Leadership Development should be the principal mechanism for driving the desired cultural change through the organization. Previously they had only taken a sporadic “shotgun” approach to Leadership Development.

How IWNC helped

IWNC worked with the client to design and implement management and leadership development solutions across Greater China. Programs were designed for both senior management- and middle management-level staff, totaling 500+ participants. Each program was composed of modules, each of which had a specific focus that the company had identified as critical to improvement in leadership effectiveness. The objective of each module was to facilitate a change in behaviors and attitudes that would in turn lead to improved leadership capabilities on-the-job. After each workshop in the program, participants evaluated the session for relevance to the workplace and usability of the content. In this manner, the effectiveness of knowledge transfer was ensured.

The modules were spread over a two-and-a-half year period, coinciding with internally run technical skills programs, thereby providing a systematic learning curriculum based on career progression in each function and department. Middle Management programs were based on the organization’s competency model. Senior Management programs were based on individual leadership development.

To support the overall objectives, IWNC helped design and roll out a new performance management system concurrently with the leadership development program. IWNC conducted one-on-one performance coaching, which a key component of the Leadership Development solution for both levels of participants.

When coupled with coaching and the new performance management system, the IWNC program facilitated significant organizational change and reduced staff turnover.
